Avenza Releases Geographic Imager 4.4 for Adobe Photoshop - Directions Magazine

Avenza Systems Inc., producers of MAPublisher® cartographic software for Adobe Illustrator® and the popular PDF Maps mobile app, is pleased to announce the release of Geographic Imager 4.4 for Adobe Photoshop. This latest update includes significant improvements to read and write performance for all geospatial formats supported by Geographic Imager. This is most noticeable when reading or writing very large files in BigTIFF, DEM, IMG, NITF, and MrSID formats and reading ASCII GRID, FLT, and BIL formats. Many formats read up to 20x faster and write up to 30x faster for very large files.

“We're very excited about this speed optimization for our Geographic Imager users,” said Ted Florence, President of Avenza. “Through some major reworking of our code base, we’ve streamlined how geospatial formats are read and written. This breakthrough will provide our power users with a faster and better performing geospatial image editing platform”, he added. “Geospatial professionals handling very large files will be able to cut processing times down significantly.”

Accurate geospatial data that drives economic growth | 1Spatial

The availability of consistent and accurate detailed geographic information is a key enabler for the growth of national economies. Geospatial data, and the maps derived from them, are fundamental to effectiveness and productivity in sectors including government, utilities, building, construction, emergency services, defence, primary industry, mining, energy, transport and tourism.

National and other government spatial data holdings are critical to decision making in all of these industries. In the U.K., mapping data from Great Britain’s National Mapping Agency, Ordnance Survey, is so vital that an independent report put its value to the British economy at more than £100 billion.

The value of these geospatial reference data sets stems from their overall accuracy, or fitness for purpose, their utility and their low cost of utilisation to end-users compared with recreating the data themselves. Governments and other organisations can efficiently capture, maintain and publish geospatial information which can be re-used multiple times by other agencies, businesses and private citizens.....

Lab 6 Density Analysis - Anthropology Analytical Cartography Lab - Confluence

Raster based density calculations represent a type of interpolation. The ArcGIS manual overview of the Density toolset states, "calculating density, you are in a sense spreading the values (of the input) out over a surface". The section of the ArcGIS manual on Understanding Density Analysis states, "[t]he Density tool distributes a measured quantity of an input point layer throughout a landscape to produce a continuous surface." Calculating density is not the same as generating topography from point elevations, but both density and topographic rasters represent an array of discrete points as a field of values. Thus, in a very general sense one can think of Density as a type of spatial interpolation.

ArcGIS provides three Density tools: Kernel, Line, and Point. Kernel densities produce tapered surfaces. Line and Point densities produce magnitude per unit area within the radius of each cell. The two figures below illustrate Point Density and Kernel Density surfaces generated from the same feature classes, that are in this case archaeological sites. Densities can be generated on just about any kind of point or line feature.....
